Wonderful and Wild Weekend of Golf at Cedar Lake

After voting to return to a two day event for their Spring Major, forty-four players teed off in the Cedar Lake Golf Association’s Member Invitational.

Teeing off for Saturday’s round, the two player teams played a better ball format with full handicap allocations. At the completion of the round, the teams were equally divided into two flights. For Sunday, handicaps were modified, and each team’s combined scores counted on six holes. Now the game is on!

Don Wall and his “young gun” partner turned in the day’s best score to win the second flight.  Steady Harry Munday and partner Steve Roman were second.

It was in the first flight where things got wild!  Scott Pickens and his life long buddy George McDowell won the flight with a score of 152.  Four teams finished tied for second at 156.  Since prizes could not be sawed up and awarded these teams headed to the first tee.  Tom McCullers, flying solo, because his partner left the course, made a spectacular putt from the collar for a net 3 and second place! With two prizes yet to give, three teams played on.  Overnight leaders Collie Turner and Rick Lipscei were eliminated by birdies at the third hole.  Finally at the par 3 fifth, where both scores counted, Joanne Lindsey struck a beautiful approach, sank the birdie putt as husband Ed two putted for par to take third place over Bob Evans and Mark Hobson.

Nick Nixon won Saturday’s chipping event, and in a four player putt off, Devon Roberts won Sunday’s putting crown.

The players enjoyed Southern hospitality, southern temperatures and good southern food both days of the event.
